Why not E

Can you explain further on why it’s not answer choice E ? When I was doing this question I was stuck between choices A (correct answer) and E. I felt that E complimented the passage and what do u mean by E is a set of facts ?

Hi @grimadeau,

Thanks for the question! Let’s take a look at what the argument is telling us. We’re told that if the country is to remain a leading nation, then there’s an undeniable need for the citizenry to have better understanding of international affairs. We also know that if this need exists, then all of the new teachers have to be prepared to teach with an international orientation. Let’s diagram this out:

CRLN = country remains leading nation
NCHBUIA = need for citizenry to have better understanding of international affairs
NTPTSMIO = new teachers prepared to teach subject matter with international orientation

CRLN —> NCHBUIA
NCHBUIA —> NTPTSMIO

Now notice we can link these two sentences together to get

CRLN —> NCHBUIA —> NTPTSMIO

which we can also simplify to

CRLN —> NTPTSMIO

which is what (A) tells us, and so (A) is the correct answer.

(E), on the other hand, tells us that public reports from various groups and commissions have stressed the need for a more international orientation in the education of teachers. But this isn’t true. All we know is that the public reports tell us that there’s a great need for a better understanding of international affairs by the citizenry. We can’t take the author’s logic and assume that the same logic is in the reports; since the logic is external to the reports, (E) isn’t supported by the passage.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any further questions that you might have.
