Please help with reasoning for eliminating B
Hello,
I eliminated B because of the word "frequency." However, an earlier thread (September 15, 2015 by Melody) eliminated B because of the word "formulated."
The second paragraph begins with "[though this much is known, the underlying causes of the reversal phenomenon are not well understood..."
So the two hypotheses that follow are meant to explain the causes for the reversal, not the frequency for the causes of the reversal.
There are reasons/causes for an occurrence. And there are reasons/causes why this occurrence is more or less frequent. The two are not synonymous. The wording that begins the second paragraph signals dealing with the former, not the frequency.
What am I missing?
Please help.

I don't think you are missing anything, you explained the problem with B perfectly. There are two questions here:
1. Why does the magnetic field reverse? 2. Why is this happening more frequently?
The two theories were created in order to answer the first question. The second question is addressed in the final paragraph, but it is not the reason for the existence of these theories.
