I don't understand this stimulus and question at all

How can I assume that M was stating that people who are left-handed don't survive? I also don't understand this question stem. Please explain this in layman's terms.

Happy to help! This is definitely a confusing question stem; it took me a minute to fully parse it out as well!

The question is asking us which hypothesis (or theory) Q's response counters.

When going through the answer choices, we are to imagine that each is a hypothesis suggested by M to explain why it is hard to find any 85 to 90-year-olds who are left-handed.

The question stem suggests that Q's response counters M's evidence, thereby weakening M's hypothesis as presented in each answer choice.

M's evidence is that it is hard to find anyone aged 85 to 90 who is primarily left-handed.

Hello,
I am not an instructor but I saw that your question was not answered yet. It is a weaken question because Q's response to M would weaken M's argument. In this, we are working backwards to see which statement would M's argument support but Q would weaken. Hope that helps!
