Why not E?
I understand the argument for C, but E is a direct contradiction of the first sentence, which states that most gm chorale precludes were written for the organ. E says that most chorale precludes were written for an instrument other than the organ. Am I off base here?

While it may appear that (E) is a direct contradiction of the first sentence, this is not actually the case. Answer choices like these are designed to trick you, so it's important to read carefully.
(E) says: "Most of the GREAT chorale preludes were written for instruments other than the organ." However, the passage only says: "Most chorale preludes were written for the organ" and "most great chorale preludes for the organ were written by J.S. Bash." So, the passage never actually says anything about the instruments that most of the GREAT chorale preludes were written for. Perhaps most chorale preludes were written for the organ, but they weren't very good. In this case, it could be true that the great chorale preludes were written for a different instrument. Therefore, it is possible that (E) could be true, so it is eliminated.
Does that make sense? Please let us know if you have any other questions!
