Why not C?
We know that the easy was the first intellectual contact of civil disobedience movement but we dont know whether it influenced King.There may be other reasons, we can't tell for sure.
"C: It provided King with a model for using passive resistance to effect social change." Why is option C wrong?

While Thoreau's writings would have illustrated such a model for King, lines 24 to 29 note that King's conception of civil disobedience was far different from Thoreau's. One key difference was that Thoreau was interested in individual reform, as opposed to social reform.
Therefore, while King may have understood Thoreau's model, he did not accept and/or employ it in his own work as the word 'provided' suggests.
As for answer choice (E), while there were almost certainly other influences on King's philosophy, it is unlikely that his first intellectual contact with the theory of passive resistance had absolutely no influence on him.
