Hi @Jasmina-Boever,

The passage concludes that the ancient Egyptians were clearly the first society to produce alcoholic beverages.

While it was originally thought that the Babylonians were the first, archaeologists discovered an Egyptian cup dated 500 years prior to the Babylonians mastering the process of fermentation for winemaking.

The sides of said cup appear to depict an Egyptian brewery and a chemical analysis revealed it contained a form of alcoholic beer.

Answer choice (A) is incorrect because the passage does not make a generalization about Egyptian society; it merely comments on the occurrence of something within that society.

Answer choice (D) is correct because it undermines the conclusion that it is clear that the ancient Egyptians were the first to produce alcoholic beverages. The fact that the Egyptians were producing alcohol prior to the Babylonians does not necessarily mean that they were the first society to produce alcoholic beverages. It is entirely possible that it remains to be discovered that a society was producing alcoholic beverages prior to 2000 BC.
