"Contrary"

"Contrary to what many people seem to believe, however, it is not necessary to deny this fact in order to reject the view that tobacco companies should be held either morally or legally responsible for the poor health of smokers" I got this question right just wanted verification on an aspect of this sentence. When they are saying contrary to what many people believe.... they are saying that many people do believe it is necessary to deny the fact?

Hi @zacharylouiskane@gmail.com

You are correct! They are saying that many people believe it is necessary to deny this fact but, in reality, it is not necessary to reject the view that tobacco companies should be held responsible for smokers' health.

Keep up the good work and please let us know if you have any further questions!
