Converting Drills into Real Examples

Hi, I am getting all of the quantifier and s&n drills correct, but when I get to questions, I am struggling with the wordiness of the questions as well as timing. Do you have any advice for someone who intuitively understands how to diagram the relationships correctly but has trouble with the wordiness or the problems and trying to complete problems on time? Thanks!

Hi Embloom, thanks for reaching out.

The problem you are describing is one that almost all of us have to overcome during our prep. Drills are so to the point that we really only require knowing the mechanics of diagramming and inference making, whereas the full word problems have a lot of superfluous information and the sentences are longer.

I think the best way to go through this learning curve is to specifically drill real LSAT questions that test your ability to work with sufficient necessary language. Practice these untamed at first, trying to figure out the optimal approach to your diagrams and chain making. Once you feel that this is second nature, turn on the clock but don't rush. Eventually, after some more of this, then you can adhere to strict timing. It's a gradual process that needs to be taken step by step.

A practical tip would be once you see that the passage requires you to diagram, start right away and do that as you read. This way you don't have to reread the passage.

I would also like to add that much of the time, these problems might actually require more time than the average problem. Especially with the parallel questions. They are just larger by nature and require extra work/steps. The overall idea should be not to spend excessive time, but to balance out timing by getting simpler questions faster to allow yourself time to work on more complicated problems. Spending an even amount of time per question throughout any section, games or LR is unrealistic and usually unattainable.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
