Cause & Effect Q6

In Carl's case, why can't it be that the effect is that he is an incompetent detective, which is caused by the fact that he only solved 1 in 25 cases?

Same here. In this case, does it even matter if the cause and effect could be reversed?

Hi,

Since we are trying to weaken an argument that relies on a causal relationship, we just need something that casts doubt on what causes the effect. While it is indeed possible that he simply is a lousy detective, we are looking for some other reason why he fails to solve cases. That said, I dont think his failure could cause him to be a bad detective- at least not directly. Maybe it could be the case that his first ten failures shook his confidence which in turn made him worse at solving cases, but ultimately this isn't relevant to finding the answer.
