Answer choice E

I understand why B is correct, but could you please provide a breakdown of answer choice E, and why it is not the correct answer? If there is any specific information in the passage that contradicts it please point this out. Thank you!

Hi @saskipper,

This question asks you to pick the answer choice which the author of the passage would be "most likely" to agree with.

As you noted, Answer (B) is correct. The passage directly states that african american historians were engaged in a "sort of nation building" (line 45) even though their community lacked a "sovereign territory" (line 53).

Answer (E) on the other hand does not have direct support in the text. You asked for direct lines from the text to contradict its claim but unfortunately the passage doesn't provide those. But, its lack of direct support for the answer choice is enough to eliminate it. Nowhere in the text does the author state that african american historians focused on different events than historians who used a nationalist approach. They may in fact have talked about the same events, just in different manners. As we don't know anything about which events were focused on, this answer is incorrect.
