Which one of the following statements regarding the Cherokee council in the 1820s can be inferred from the passage?

Explanation

I got the right answer on this one because I eliminated the rest of the choices. Although I struggles between C and D. I ended up going with D because there was less evidence for C than for D. I am still confused to where the evidence in the passage is that the policies affected the activities of white people.

Hi @avif,

The evidence supporting this can be found in lines 44 to 49. These lines note that the majority of the Cherokee council supported "a move which preserved many of the reforms of the part-Cherokee elite but limited the activities and influence of the missionaries and other White settlers."

In this way, the reforms of the part-Cherokee elite meant that the council did not have full autonomy in governing the Nation but they were still able to limit the activities and influence of white people.

Hope this is helpful! Please let us know if you have any further questions.
