Why is E correct

Could anybody please explain why A is a worse answer choice than E? I was in between the two and I ultimately chose A because it seemed well supported by the sentence that "the theory has helped to explain previously mysterious phenomena, including..." Since something being mysterious means that you don't know whether it is true and since the theory was put forth in the 1960s, why is A wrong? Thank you very much!

Answer choice (A) is incorrect because the question stem asks about "the fact that most honeybees exist only to nurture relatives."

The theory that was developed in the 1960s may have helped to explain this phenomena but that does not necessarily mean that this fact about honeybees was not known to be true before the 1960s. It is possible that researchers had observed this behaviour in honeybees decades earlier but were only able to explain it following the development of the theory in the 1960s.
