I read all the explanations above , yet i am confused on the conclusion being derived and then on how the answer is C. Could you explain the conclusion and the elimination of answer choices on this one. Thank You!

Thanks for the question! So we should definitely read the entirety of the first paragraph to get the entire context here. We know that the author here is telling us that until recently, few historians were interested in analyzing the similarities and differences between serfdom in the US and Russia. And then the author points to the almost simultaneous abolition of serfdom and slavery in the 1860s, which is “a riveting coincidence that should have drawn more modern scholars to a comparative study of the two systems.” At the end of the paragraph, we’re told about a study that contrasts the two systems and “illuminating” differences.

So the author here seems to be a proponent of comparing the two systems. Why does the author mention slavery and serfdom being abolished in the same decade? As another reason that historians should’ve been drawn to a comparative study of the two, as the author basically says in lines 9-13. This is what (C) tells us, so (C) is correct.

US and Russia are NOT institutions. A stupid person knows that. I know a lot about history, this is wrong. MISINFORMATION!!!!
