Diagramming

I had a lot of trouble with this question because I diagramed a lot more parts than you did in the video. For example, in the last sentence, why was icy surfaces not diagramed as well? I am really curious about how/when you decide not to diagram certain parts.

I have the same question, what is the logic that you use when deciding which words to diagramed, besides necessary and sufficient conditions? can anyone explain that process, please. That would be very helpful.

Generally, I only diagram statements that are conditional, and sometimes those contain quantifiers. Let's look at this question sentence by sentence.

1: We have a quantifier here (most planets have solid surfaces)
2: Conditional- If surface renewed -> volcanic action
3: Conditional - If not renewed -> craters
4: quantifiers: Some old have icy surfaces with no craters)

This is really a matter of personal choice. The more things you diagram the more time it takes to make your diagram- and for this reason many people will only diagram the conditional statements. If you feel you have a good handle on the meanings of the first and last sentences, then a diagram of those are probably not too helpful. However, if you are early in your studying, or do not have a great understanding of those sentences that are not conditional, it wouldn't hurt to add to your diagram.
