Reading more carefully

Do you have any recommendations for exercises to hone my skills with reading more carefully? I keep picking wrong answers due to one sneaky word making another answer better or making my answer wrong. (like Example 5)

Hi Austen, thanks for bringing this up.

There really isn't any one particular way to fix this issue but it is something all of us contend with at one point or another. Especially in RC.

I would pay great attention to any words that signal quantity, probability, or words that indicate author's tones.

Another thing you can try to do is work on retaining all of the relevant info directly after reading, by reading a passage, then not looking at it and trying to reiterate all of the relevant points. Keep trying this until you become able to do this quickly and precisely. This helps you work on short term memory as well as makes you read closer.

Also, last but not least, this is obvious but needs to be said. You must focus intensely always and give reading your undivided attention. If you truly focus, you will find that your mistakes in reading will diminish dramatically.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
