The passage states that the study of native languages has recently grown

Why not D?

Hi, I see why A is correct (stated in first paragraph), but why is D incorrect? Is it because of the word "supplanted"? As in, radio has supplemented traditional means of language transmission, but has not replaced it? Would love an explanation regarding this. Thanks!

Hi @mfujii,

Happy to help!

There are two reasons why (D) is incorrect.

First, as you've alluded to, we don't actually know what impact radio has had on traditional means of language transmission i.e. has it "supplanted" it or "supplemented" it? We just know that many indigenous communities are establishing radio stations which broadcast in native languages.

Second, radio programming is not presented as an explanation for why the study of native languages has recently grown. Rather, it is used as an example of the types of native language study and preservation efforts that have recently grown in popularity.

Hope this is helpful! Please let us know if you have any further questions.
