Hi @AllisonJ,

Thanks for the question! So let’s take a look at this passage overall. This “which one of the following title best expresses the main idea” question is just a main idea question in (a pretty bad) disguise, so once we figure out the main idea, we just have to find the title that expresses it the best. So where should we go for the main point? Well, it’s probably somewhere at the beginning or end, and should be something we understand from looking at the passage with a bird’s eye view. What is this passage about? Well, we’re told in the last sentence of the first paragraph (starting at line 20) that the author believes that we can’t read a Byron poem without wondering what happened in Byron’s life that made him write it. And then the second paragraph expands on this idea by telling us how important it is to know about Byron’s “singular personality.” Finally, at the end, we’re told that we can’t shut out Byron the man when we read Byron’s poetry, or we’re fabricating a work of pseudocriticms (starting at line 53).

So what’s the main idea? Well, it seems to be something like we need to consider Byron’s life when considering his poems, since Byron’s life is going to play a big part in really understanding them. And this is what (B) gets at. Byron: The Recurring Presence in Byron’s Poetry tells us just that, that Byron recurs as a presence in his own poetry, which is what the passage thinks we should focus on. The other answer choices aren’t about this main point and so are incorrect.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
