December 2007 SEC 1 Q19

I don't quite understand how answer A shows that ad increased? In the stimulus it says those who sleep 6 hours started sleeping 8 hours, yet the answer choice only talks about those companies that begin advertising... Also, I feel like the answer choice jumps from never to some ads, whereas the stimulus says 6 to 8. Please help!

Hi @Kenken,

You are right. The stimulus talks about going from 6 hours of sleep to 8 hours of sleep, while Answer A talks about going from never advertising online to advertising online. While there is a difference between going from "some to more" and "none to some," in both cases the change is the same as both involve doing something that was not done before. Sometimes it's helpful to disassociate the pattern from the actual words and just look at the form of the argument. Here the stimulus can be broke down to:

People who do A (sleep less than 6 hrs) then start to do B (sleep at least 8 hrs) generally begin to feel less anxious.
So, most people who do A can feel less anxious if they do B.

Answer (A) follows that pattern:

Companies who do A (don't advertise online) then start to do B (advertise online) generally improve their finances.
So, most companies that do A can improve their finances if they do B.
