I am wondering what the phrasing of this question is getting at? Is it asking which of these lines contains within it the other's option toward Modernists?

I found the answer choices just to be phrased oddly in a way that made them all unappealing

Hey there,

Thanks for the question! So let’s take a look here. We’re being asked for an answer choice that, in the context of the passage, most clearly reveals the attitude of the author toward the proponents of the Modern Movement. So basically, we’re just being asked here for something that gives us a clue into what the author thinks about people who support the Modern Movement. We’re given a bunch of short excerpts from the passages to look at, so we should be looking at where these appear in the passages, how they’re used, and then see if they reveal what the author says about the supporters of the Modern Movement.

Take a look at (D), which tells us that this word is “conveniently” in line 30. Let’s go there and take a look at it and the surrounding lines. We see that in this section of the passage, we’re told that “the tenets of the Movement” (lines 19-20) would only pay attention to “Modern” features of innovative architects’ works, and “conveniently” ignore others. This word “conveniently” is what lets us know what the author thinks about the supporters of the Modern Movement. The author thinks that they’re conveniently ignoring some things to best fit their story, which gives us insight into what the author thinks about them—a generally negative attitude, thinking that their beliefs are impractical. The author’s usage of this word reveals their attitude towards the supporters of the Modern Movement, and so (D) is the correct answer.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
