Rottweilers can only be featured in Day 3?

Hi, The diagram drawed out says R can go in both 3 and 5. The answer choice says R can ONLY go in 3. However, it can/could also go in 5. I had a hard time choosing between answer choice D and E. As with E, R could be interchangeable in another position. Please help coach on how to select between D and E. Thanks

Thanks for the question! So first, I think you’re misconstruing what (D) is saying. It’s not saying that R can ONLY go in 3. It’s saying that if H is not in day 7, then it’s possible that R only goes on day 3. Remember that this is a “could be true” question, not a “must be true” question.

Now let’s see if (E) could be true. Well, if H isn’t on day 7, then H has to be on days 2, 4, and 6 (since there are 3 Hs and they can’t be next to each other, and H isn’t on day 1). Because of the last rule, we know that R can’t be featured on any of these days, 2 4 and 6, and also it can’t be featured on day 7. We know that G is the dog on day 1, so R also can’t be on day 1. So we can’t have R in days 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7, which only leaves days 3 and 5 as possibilities. Which means that there’s no space to put three R’s, and so we can’t have R on three days, so (E) is out.

But we could have R just on day 3, as we showed above. Just because R could be on day 5 doesn’t mean it has to be. So (D) could be true, and is the correct answer.
