"Except" Questions

I seem to do well on all the reading comp question besides the "except" questions. On this question, I answered A, and I understand why the answer is E, but I am just wondering what the strategy is to get these questions correct. I know that the answer choice cannot be true, but it is difficult when all of the questions seem to be true.

I have this same question. I'm getting very frustrated at how many questions are WEEKS or MONTHS old with no answer. This is not the service that was advertised to me nor the service I paid for.

Heads up I'm a student, first we look at the stimulus which said, "According to the passage, many working parents may be forced to make any of the following types of career decisions EXCEPT." so we are looking for an answer that isn't linked to the stimulus.

Now, In terms of strategy these questions are pretty straight forward for how I go about them. It is as simple as eliminating answer choices that WERE shown in the passage supporting the stimulus statement, "many working parents may be forced to make any of the following types of career decisions."

And by process of elimination B (Lines 27-32), C (Lines 32-39), D (Lines 51-59), and E (Lines 16-24) were all mentioned in the passage supporting the stimulus, leaving A as our correct answer

Answer A says, "declining professional positions for nonprofessional ones, which typically have less conventional work schedules." This answer is stated in the passage around line 59 BUT the end of question A says, "which typically have less conventional work schedules" this is the opposite of what is said in the passage. the passage indicates that by doing the nonprofessional positions this allows working moms to have a more flexible schedule. also this was stated in lines 59-63, "Nonprofessional women are concentrated in secretarial work and department store sales, where their absences can be covered easily by substitutes and where they can enter and leave the work force with little loss," further solidifying this as the right answer.

Hope this helps!

also to add on to my post, For question A we are also not told in the passage that people are declining professional jobs for nonprofessional ones, the passage talks about both kinds of roles, but it's not stated that people leave one for the other. Remember, the stimulus is asking, "According to the passage, many working parents may be forced to make any of the following types of career decisions EXCEPT" the key word here is forced.
