Answer choice A

Hello, I chose answer choice A as it seemed to best conform to the principle in the question. This question took me too long to answer, however, because to me, even A didn't seem to fully illustrate/match the stimulus. My thought process: The stimulus talks about the environmentalists having their facts straight, because if it turns out that they are wrong, they will not be credible later on. However, answer choice A seemed to be saying that the managers should have the EVIDENCE, because if they don’t have this evidence, they will not be credible. One talked about having facts straight/being right and one talked about having evidence, and the outcome (being wrong or right in the end) didn’t seem to matter. Answer choice A just didn’t seem to fit/illustrate the principle of the stimulus as clearly as previous examples. I’m wondering if I’m overthinking and shouldn’t look so deeply into these types of questions, or if this is just not a great question. Thanks!

Hi @ritagentile,

Thanks for the question! I think you’re looking too deep into the details of the question. Remember, this is asking us for something that’ll best illustrate the principle in the argument. So we’re just looking for some very broad kind of rule that we can apply. So what’s the principle? Well, I’d say it’s something that’s basically like “Don’t be the boy who cries wolf.” If you’re going to make a claim, make sure that claim’s right, or people won’t believe you later down the road when they actually probably should. And when you think about it on that level, (A) is a perfect fit! So don’t think that much about the details—the whole facts straight/being right vs. having evidence doesn’t really matter that much. And as you noted, (A) is definitely the best answer here. If there are two scenarios that seem similar, then you might want to start looking more at details, but otherwise, you just need something that fits the same idea.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
