For #62 why is the correct answer A?

In my opinion the main idea is more related to D. Not making sense for me.

I also thought that D made more sense... so why A?

After review I notice that D cannot be right because it states "A recent study has questioned the value.." . However, line 18 states "kolchin identifies differences that are illuminating.." making it clear that the author finds it illuminating. Since this is a main point question, we care about why the author wrote what he wrote and thus D is wrong. This was my methodology but I'm no instructor
