The words "that kind of finesse" (final sentence of the passage) refer primarily to

Why not c?
I think I understand why E, but I feel like C also applies to what the researchers were able to do, and so, it also represents a certain kind of finesse. Thank you so much

Hi I am not an instructor but I know the answer is in lines 55-57: “They are also designing new peptides that bind to two different crystals at once, acting as a daub of glue.” Thus, the kind of finesse referred to in the sentence after lines 55-57 is talking about the finesse in controlling how and where peptides can bind, as the researchers aim to have as much control over where and how peptides bind to different crystals at once. This leads to correct answer E.
C is incorrect because the kind of finesse in the last sentence is not referring to the development of methods in observing structures that are small and complex, as the sentence before the last sentence specifically told us that the researchers aim to control where and how peptides bind to different crystals as much as possible. Thus, the kind of finesse is not in observing small and complex structures. Rather, the kind of finesse is in controlling the direction and the kind of materials that peptides can bind, as the previous sentence in lines 55-57 states.
I hope that I explained it correct. Please feel free to correct me. Thank you.

Hi Kristin,
For C, it’s about applying these techniques in the future, not simply observing them. Hope this helps!
