out of scope

In other questions, sometimes the right answer offers another alternative or brings something else up to be considered and I have a hard time distinguishing when to pick that answer vs. calling it out of scope. How do I better distinguish?

@kjkennedy, great question. "Out of scope" is a catch-all term that basically means "beyond the context" of the argument in the stimulus. When looking at answer choices, if the subject material is different from the argument, you need to ask yourself: "Does this impact the relationship between the conclusion and premises?" If the answer is no, then the choice you're looking at is irrelevant. If the answer is yes, then you need to ask yourself: "How does impact the relationship between the conclusion and the premises?" If you start doing this, it'll help you distinguish answer choices that are out of scope/irrelevant from ones that actually do impact the argument.
