Thanks for the question! This question is asking us about why the author thinks some critics are basically inverted snobs, and points us to line 17. So we should go to that line and read above and below it a few lines to get the full context.

Once we’ve done that, let’s take a look at (E), which says that the critics think that P.D. James should be less fastidious about portraying violence. Was violence mentioned in that paragraph, or even in the passage? No, violence isn’t really mentioned, whether saying she has too much or too little violence, and so that can’t be what the critics believe. It’s not even mentioned in the passage! So that’s what helps us rule out (E).
