I am confused with the conclusion here. I thought that it was at the end beginning with so...can you explain please? Thanks!

Hi @Ella2021,

Thanks for the question! You’re right about which sentence the conclusion is! It’s the last sentence about the frequent claim being wrong. But don’t forget what the question is asking you, it’s asking you what role the first sentence plays in the argument. And the first sentence could still be true whwether the conclusion is true or false.

Everyone else who has commented throughout this message board is saying that the last sentence is a subsidiary conclusion and not the main conclusion. Can you please clarify?

I would argue that the first sentence is the conclusion- since I think we could say that the final sentence does support it. However, I would almost treat both sentences as the thing the author is trying to prove. The important thing is that c actually is correct regardless of which one you see as the conclusion. In the rare cases when the conclusion is split up like this, the right answer will not be dependent on identifying which part is the overall conclusion.
