This question through me a little for a loop because I through I knw what the main Idea was, but I guess not. I did not choose C because I thought it focused too much on the last paragraph of the passage so could this be explained further?

The main point is not a summary, but the thing that the author is trying to show by writing the passage. Here, the author is talking about how one theory superseded the other, and while they spend a fair amount of time describing the old theory, the old theory is clearly disfavored. So while C does focus on the second half, this is not a problem, since the author was writing about how the new overtook the old idea.
