Why not B?

I don't think that I understand the difference between Not Necessarily True and Could Be True. These two options seem logically equivalent. if something CBT, then it is also NNT. Can anyone explain the logical difference between these two? Thank you.

Hi @Anthony-Wurst,

Happy to help!

There is a slight difference between the two based on their focus. Could be true means that it could happen i.e. it is not necessarily false. On the other hand, not necessarily true means that it does not have to happen i.e. it could be false.

I found it extremely useful to memorize the logical equivalents and opposites of each of the following.

Must Be True = Cannot Be False
Not Necessarily True = Could Be False

The ones on top of each other are opposites i.e. the opposite of Must Be True is Not Necessarily True and the opposite of Cannot Be False is Could Be False.

Could Be True = Not Necessarily False
Cannot Be True = Must Be False

Again, the ones on top of each other are opposites i.e. the opposite of Could Be True is Cannot Be True and the opposite of Not Necessarily False is Must Be False.

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any further questions.
