Wording

I was confused because it says that the testing was done on a standard machine but then the answer choice involved a human population.

^^Yes! I'm also confused by the "standard machine" part. Why is answer E correct? The premises didn't mention humans at all. Could someone please explain? Thank you!

Hi, the passage is about whether smoking cigs can cause heart disease. While a machine was used to test the content and composition of cigarettes, a machine is highly unlikely to be actually smoking a pack of cigs, and unless my understanding of biology and machines is deeply flawed, machines don't get heart disease.
