I see where the right answer is coming from I believe, but I was wondering if this could be further explained because I believe I misinterpreted what argument to look at, because there were in a way two in the one sentence.

For analogy questions, we are looking for something that fulfills the same high level role as the thing in the passage. Here the thing in the passage are studies that show how cultures blended together in the melting pot of the us, in contrast to studies that show how distinct cultural elements were preserved.

The right answer is a clear example of showing how a cultural element blended once in the US.
