Can someone explain this sentence please

"However, this emphasis on Thoreau's influence on King is unfortunate:..." What is this sentence saying because it made me believe that the book didn't influence Dr.King? Is the author saying the Emphasis is unfortunate? Unfortunate as in regrettable or inappropriate?

Hi Ryn, I read this sentence here as saying it is regrettable that so many writers on King's philosophy draw such a strong connection with Thoreau's essay Civil Disobedience. Then, they go on to say that it's somewhat of an inappropriate (inappropriate as in we shouldn't put so much emphasis on it) connection to draw, because King wouldn't have agreed with other tenants of Thoreau, and because it obscures other connections between King and transcendentalism. I don't think the author is saying it is completely wrong to draw any connection between King and CD, just that we shouldn't emphasize it.
