True and False question

Drill #52 question 5 asks "Which one of the following statements can be true?" I chose cannot be True. I was able to identify that Can be True is similar in saying Could be True. Of course, I got the question wrong. Can you explain the reasoning behind this question? Also, what other words may be used by the test-makers like that are similar?

Hi Lamont,

The good news is that almost every "could be true" question type would use the wording "could" rather than "can" By asking which can be true, the question asks us to find an answer that must not be false- this includes answer that must be true (e.g. the sun will rise in the east) or that could be true (e.g. it will rain soon). Since both of those statements could be true, this is a could be true.

As you recognized- could and can are nearly synonyms- I think this might be a case of overthinking

I see what you mean. I have been keeping in mind all the information in the lecture, my notes, and instructions here committing them to memory so I don't waste time overthinking. Thank you.
