Which one of the following most accurately states the main point of the passage?

Differentiate why C is better than E

I know I fell into the trap of the final sentence = main point, instead of looking back at the full passage. But I think I got uneasy about picking C because it felt more like an inference. Can someone please explain what went wrong with E and why C is the best one?

Hi Rfwafra,

I think the main problem with E is that it takes a specific case, and makes a general conclusion from that one case. We are told that this one provincial court was overly conservative, and that the plaintiffs might have more success in their case at the supreme court. (E) Tells us that efforts in general would be more successful at the supreme court than in provincial courts. However, the passage never tells us that provincial courts are too conservative, only that one court in particular was. We cannot assume this is true of all courts, or that all cases would be more likely to succeed at the supreme court.

Answer choice (c) does feel a little weak, and it isn't ever explicitly stated, but if I were asked what the author was trying to tell us, I would likely say something along the lines of "lack of clarity and poor court decisions have posed challenges for first nations peoples in canada in their quest to assert their rights." This isn't far from what we have in C.
