Group Games, Q 15

When ranking the full set of possible tennis players, why is the relationship between Kim and Oliver ignored even though Palo may not be playing? The correct answer as shown by the explanation states that Oliver ranks higher than Palo when Kim isn't playing. Thank you!

Sorry, let me restate...The correct answer "D" as shown by the explanation states that Oliver ranks higher than Kim when Paulo isn't playing. It is stated that Kim has no bearing on the order. Thank you!

Hi @Jil,

When you have a conditional statement, if the sufficient condition is proven wrong on a given setup you can ignore that conditional for that situation.

For example, let’s say someone says:

“if I win the lottery, I will buy you a car”

If that person wins the lottery then something happens: they must buy you a car.

But if they do not win the lottery, they are not bound to do anything at all. Maybe they choose to give you a car anyway, or maybe they don’t.

On this game, the relationship between K and O is predicated on Paulo playing tennis. Therefore, if P does not play tennis, we can ignore the rule. Perhaps K won’t play at all, or maybe K will play before or after O. Anything goes if the sufficient condition isn’t met.
