This question is asking that, by taking the position they did, the author is assuming which of the following. Asking what the author necessarily assumed is a necessary assumption, or strengthen with necessary premise question.

That doesn't answer the question. Why is it wrong to construe the question as being about methods of reasoning? The assumptions could easily be considered part of the methods being used. Please clarify.

Hi, a methods of reasoning question is specifically asking about how the author made her argument as a whole, this is asking us what the author must have assumed
