C explains why beetles might have been in the region without a warm climate. Rather than eating the abundant vegetation, they may have been scavenging whatever small animal and plant remains they could find.
E is completely irrelevant. It is telling us that beetles as a whole are extremely old. Let's say, they evolved 1 billion years ago, and some of the other warm weather plants evolved only 100m years ago. This has absolutely nothing to do with when they returned to a valley after an ice age, which, for all we know, may have only been 10k years ago.
