I don't see the flaw

I am mapping this stimulus out as: P1. Change --> Motive P2. Unpleasant criticism --> Motive P3. Harsh criticism --> unpleasant criticism --> Motive Conclusion: Change --> Harsh criticism This seems perfectly fine to me. I've read the explanation and these forum posts and I just can't see the flaw.

Hi,

The issue is the only. The argument draws out that harsh criticism can give you a motive, which is valid. However, there is no reason that harsh criticism is the only thing that can give you a motive. Just because harsh criticism is effective does not mean that nothing else can be effective. Perhaps the motive to change could come from one's own desire to succeed, or from seeing one's friends succeed and being jealous. There is nothing in the argument that proves that harsh criticism is necessary.

Thank you Emil, I see that now.
