Tips for the future
I almost selected C but opted for D because I thought it would be better to weaken it by saying it couldn't have been geological processes rather than saying it could have been another life form. I didn't consider how answer choice C didn't overcome the time obstacle until I read the explanation. What should have tipped me off that C wouldn't overcome that obstacle? Is there something in the stimulus or answer choice that should've prompted me to I home in on and dig in further?

I would focus on understanding and retaining the information from the passage. The question for a weaken or strengthen is going to be "how does this impact the argument." If you remember that no multicellular life was around when the marks were made, the answer to our question for C is "no impact." The better you understand the initial argument the better you will be able to understand how each answer choice impact the argument, if it does at all.
