Between two
I was between answer choices b and e. I ultimately chose e because of the second paragraph's last sentence. But I'm still having a hard time seeing why the mention of the textbook couldn't be seen as a refutal for the claim that men's folklore is chosen over women's. Can someone explain why B doesn't work?

Hi, the author isn't refuting the claim that folklorists tended to prefer the stories of men to those of women. The author generally agrees with that statement, so why would they be trying to refute it? The text book is one data point that does not undermine a general trend, which is what Farrar describes. More importantly, Farrar is describing a trend that until recently was the case, as noted in the opening of the second paragraph. Since the textbook is new, a new trend cannot refute a claim about what used to be the case.
