Unsure why answer choice (D) is overlooked.

The stimulus presents knowledge advancement(we know the disease that's coming). Then confirms that we do not know the cure for the imminent disease. Isn't that exactly parallel with knowing more and now aware of what we don't?

I don't think the passage is opening up new things that we previously didn't know we didn't know. These were known diseases before, the advance is that we are now better able to tell who has them early on. I think a good example of d might be discovering the universe is expanding, which then raises questions of why, and the issue of dark matter and energy. We don't actually have anything that raises completely new questions, just that shows the limits of our existing tech.
