Is the term “all” an automatic sign that we need to create a contra positive? I selected BGD - L as an answer, in my head I reversed the statement “If it is a lab, then it barks a great deal”, to “It barks a great deal, so it is a lab”.

It is a indicator that the term is conditional. That's usually a dead giveaway that one thing guarantees the other. This means that we can take the contrapositive. Whether it's worth the effort depends on if we want to diagram the question, or if we understand it on a read through without having to diagram. That said, if you see yourself reversing like that, it might be a good idea to build the habit of taking contrapositives when you see conditional statements,
