It can most reasonably be inferred from the passage that the author holds which one of the following views?

I picked E...

The support I had was " Many Mexican Americans are only a generation . away from the mostly agrarian culture of their (15) ancestors, and the work of most Mexican American . writers shows evidence of heavy influence from this . culture." Could I please get some clarification on why E is wrong, and why the correct answer is correct?

I don't see how that supports E. That past or the passage tells us that Mexican American writers are heavily influenced by their culture. This doesn't show an importance of history per se, and it is silent as to its relative importance between Mexican culture and Mexican American culture.

D is right because lines 26-40 strongly suggest that the mainstream of Mexican publishing is centered on Mexico City, and concerned with cosmopolitan themes, which the author distinguishes from regional works
