Flawed Argument
I am confused about the argument regarding Sue. The teacher states that "An argument is VALID if and only if the conclusion follows logically from the stated premises, assuming these premises are to be true". Are we assuming that the premises is true or does it have to be true. It seemed like it was a flawed argument because the premises is not true, however I can assume that it is true which would than make the argument valid.

It would be flawed argument because for example... My daughter's name is Anthony. Most people assume Anthony is a male name although one must not assume because any gender can be named Anthony, it is not common but in fact rare for a female to be named an assumed male name.
