a little confused on e

so, I got e right based on several factors. for starters it makes sense that it would have to contribute to practical issues being useful in making decisions. However, what threw me off was the "sometimes" in ans e. They want to replace or add to teaching more abstract aspects of science but isn't sometimes slightly equivalent to seldom which is what abstract knowledge does "seldomly". Just trying to understand e better
