December 1996 LSAT - Section 2 - Question 24

Statistician: Changes in the Sun's luminosity correlate exceedingly well with average land temperatures on Earth. ...

Brianna July 30 at 04:47PM

Why is the answer A where is the support for the conclusion? The meteorologists disagrees

I picked b out of process of elimination because that seemed like the best answer. The reason I didnt choose A was because it said supporting the conclusion and I dont see support

@Brianna, thank you for your question,

It is important to figure out which conclusion is being referenced here. The statistician's conclusion is "Clearly ... the Sun's luminosity essentially controls land temperatures..." while the Meteorologist's conclusion is "I disagree [it is not clearly true that the Sun's luminosity controls temperatures...]"

M supported this conclusion (it is not clearly true) by saying "no significant aspect can be controlled by a single variable"

Hope that helps and happy studying,
