What is the conclusion? "If this result can be repeated in an operational setting, then there will be a way of giving access to those people who are entitled to access and to no one else."

Why? Because in a small initial trial of a new system that relies on recognizing the voices of authorized users, the system never incorrectly gave access to someone who was seeking access to the computer's data.

But, isn't there another way the system could make a mistake? Instead of incorrectly granting access, it could incorrectly deny access. We have not been given any information on whether the system incorrectly denies access to people who are entitled access. This is exactly what answer choice (D) points out.

Answer choice (B) is incorrect because we have not been given a general conclusion. Our conclusion is specific: if this result can be repeated in an operation setting, then there will be a way of giving access to those people who are entitled to access and to no one else. And we haven't actually been given data. We've only been given the results of a study.

Hope that clears things up! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I still don't understand why A is incorrect. D seems so irrelevant to me. The passage never discussed denying access.

Explanation for B is great! I thought that the "initial small trial" and its findings could be considered a "small amount of data".

For future references, if there is no ACTUAL data given in the stimulus, is it safe to eliminate an answer choice referring to data?
