Clarification

On this question, how were you able to deduct that G, T, H can only be positioned from 1 to 4? I might have missed something. Thank you!

So we are given that "L" is fifth. We know from rule #2 that "J" is after "L," and we know from rule #3 that "K" and "M" are after "L." Therefore, "L" has three fields harvested after it. Since "L" is fifth, it only has three spots available after it: 6, 7, and 8 . Thus, everything else, i.e. P, G, H, T must be before "L."

Hope that clears things up! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

why cant M be 6th? it only has 5 things required behind it and one is L, which is already placed. The Setup could be HPGKLMJT? There M=6

Hi @Dro1215,

Happy to help!

To start, your set-up above violates Rule 4 which tells us that T must be harvested before M. It also violates Rule 3 which tells us that K is harvested at some time after L.

We know that P and G are harvested before K and that K is harvested before M and after L.

L >

P > K > M

G >

We also know that T must be harvested before M.

Therefore, L, P, G, K, and T must be harvested before M.

The question stem tells us that L is the fifth field harvested. We know from Rule 3 that K must be harvested after L but before M. M cannot be harvested 6th because K must be harvested after L and before M and L is 5th. Therefore, the earliest that K could be harvested is 6th. M could be harvested 7th or 8th.

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any further questions.
