Conclusion: "when such glasses are worn, it is because the wearer has a tendency to be depressed or hypochondriacal."

Why? We are told that psychological tests given in British hospitals to patients admitted for physical complaints like heart pain and digestive distress confirmed such a relationship. The argument offers a hypothesis as further evidence supporting its conclusion: "perhaps people whose relationship to the world is psychologically painful CHOOSE such glasses to reduce visual stimulation, which is perceived as irritating."

Answer choice (A) states that some people wear tinted glasses not because they choose to do so but because they are forced to do so due to a medical condition. Thus, the hypothesis that the argument uses as evidence for its conclusion is shown not to be true in some cases, hence weakening the reasoning in the argument.

Hope that clears things up! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I still do not understand that answer a is weakening, rather I feel that it is strengthening. The answer A indicates that the medical condition forces people to wear a glass. I think that the conclusion is the same, depression [medial condition) forces people to wear a glass. Does the medical condition not include depression?
