Seems like a lot

After trudging through the question for much longer than it should take I found the correct answer. This question had a lot of repetitive words and I found myself having to re-read alot to check the answers . What is the suggested quickest method of attack. Thanks!

The complicated portions in this passage are the sequence of events that occur when carbon levels increase and when carbon levels decrease. If you write those down so you can visually keep track of them, then it is clear that all of the answer choice occur other than answer choice (E).

Increase: atmosphere holds more heat ==> more water evaporates from ocean => increased rain ==> rain washes carbon from air into oceans ==> carbon becomes part of seabeds

Decrease: atmosphere holds less heat ==> decrease in evaporation from oceans ==> less rain ==> less carbon washed into oceans.

Hope that clears things up! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I don't understand why B is not correct

Mehran September 22, 2018

@melissajo remember that this is a Bizarro Must Be True question, so we are looking for the answer choice that is not necessarily true.

(B) is directly supported by the following sentence:

"An increase in the level [of carbon] causes the atmosphere to hold more heat, which causes more water to evaporate from the oceans, which causes increased rain."

Hope that helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

What makes this a Bizarro must be true question?

JCarter December 10, 2018

As oppose to a normal Must be True question?

Jacob-R December 11, 2018

@JCarter this is a bizarro must be true question because the question stem is asking what can be inferred from the information in the passage “EXCEPT.” It is the EXCEPT that makes it a bizarro must be true — every wrong answer must be true, whereas the right answer need not be able to be inferred from the passage. I hope that helps.

@CristianStanley, I suggest taking some time to drill bizarro questions using the analytics tool in the app. This will help you gain comfort and familiarity with this question over time, and eventually you'll feel much more comfortable with them.
